fly the coop

In the last few weeks I’ve become involved in setting up an exciting new venture: Fly The Coop. This is a co-working co-operative based in Manchester. It will “own” an open office space in the city centre and lease desk space on a permanent or ad-hoc basis to the co-operative’s members. This will be the primary place of work for some members, and the idea is to fill the space with a constantly changing mix of creative techie types, with the aim of fostering spontaneous interaction and collaboration.

Initial estimates are based on accommodating upto 15 people, and we expect to grow with demand. Right now there are many details (including prices and location) to be finalised in the next few weeks. If you’re interested to find out more, drop me a note, visit the website, or check out

agile nw meeting, 19th july

We had a record turn-out last night – 11 people! We spent a really interesting 3 hours debating lean thinking and it’s relationship to software development (for example, can we learn anything at all from the lean movement, given that software development is nothing like a factory?). The debate is continuing today on the group’s wiki.

Next meeting is Monday 16th August, 7pm. If you’re in the Manchester/Liverpool area please drop in and say hello.
