who owns me?

It seems odd that photographs of me, commissioned by me, paid for by me and in my possession, could be copyrighted by someone else… (or is that just me?)

  1. Rights ownership is always a negotiating point when engaging a contractor. A “work for hire” clause is used by many industries to assign the results of work performed to the entity contracting for the work.

If owning the rights to your image is important to you, you won’t release those rights to the contractor that you engage to take those photos. If the contractor demands that they retain some rights, find another.
