I think the same of our wedding photos.
Anyway, this is quite close to the topic of Subjectrights, but I don’t know if any photographer could be pursuaded to give away any “subjectrights”.
Rights ownership is always a negotiating point when engaging a contractor. A “work for hire” clause is used by many industries to assign the results of work performed to the entity contracting for the work.
If owning the rights to your image is important to you, you won’t release those rights to the contractor that you engage to take those photos. If the contractor demands that they retain some rights, find another.
