Value for money

I read that around 75% of software projects fail in some way, and around 60% of completed software is never or rarely used. Which implies that only 10% of the global expenditure on software development actually delivers useful value on time! And even that contains bugs…

Customer: How much will you charge me to develop this application?
Software house: £30,000…
Customer: Great! Go ahead.
Software house: …plus another £270,000 for all the late stuff and the stuff you don’t really want…
Customer: Eh?
Software house: …plus a further 10% per annum to fix the bugs we put in
Customer: *!&$%*!!
